Facial Rejuvenation in Huntersville with Dr. Erik Miles

Understanding Facial Rejuvenation in Huntersville

Facial rejuvenation, also known as rhytidectomy but commonly referred to as a facelift, can be completed in various ways. Some patients may seek a full facelift to address several areas of concern, while others may only require rejuvenation to specific areas of the face. These procedures allow patients to pinpoint their treatment to suit their individual needs.

Upper Rhytidectomy (Upper Facelift)

For many patients, the eyes reveal the first signs of aging. Drooping skin in the forehead and brow area can prematurely age an individual and may even impair their vision. For these patients, an upper rhytidectomy, also known as a forehead lift or brow lift, may be recommended. The procedure reduces the appearance of wrinkles in the forehead and fine lines around the eyes.

Small incisions are typically made at the hairline or within the hairline, allowing the skin to be repositioned with any scars hidden in the hairline. The technique used for your procedure will vary, depending on the position of your eyelids and the height of your hairline.

Mid-Rhytidectomy (Mid Face Facelift)

Some patients may experience looser skin in the mid-section of their face, to include the cheeks, nose, and mouth. This can impact patients as young as 30 years of age, with sagging cheeks contributing to dark under eye circles as well. A mid face facelift, commonly called a cheek lift, addresses the areas of skin around the cheeks and nose to reduce wrinkles that commonly form as skin loses its laxity.

Dr. Miles will reposition the sagging cheek tissue, known as the malar fat pad, to a higher position. This will reduce wrinkling in the lower eyelid area, as well as nasolabial laugh lines that form around the mouth.

Lower Rhytidectomy (Lower Facelift)

Patients of all ages may experience loose or sagging skin in the jowls. This sagging distorts the once youthful appearance of the jaw line.  This lower face sagging can also create what may commonly be referred to as a “double chin” or “turkey neck.” The loss of laxity can be caused by any number of factors, including age, stress, environmental conditions, and heredity. Patients suffering from this loose skin make desire a lower facelift, to lift the jowls as well as some of the sagging in the neck area.

Techniques vary depending on your individual needs, but often involve incisions around the ears and hairline. Fat that forms within the jowls and neck will be removed or redistributed and skin is lifted to achieve the more youthful look you desire.

Often times, patients of Dr. Miles will combine a facelift procedure with other procedures, such as an upper eyelid lift, to achieve the youthful look they desire. These procedures can often be performed at the same time to reduce multiple healing periods. Dr. Miles performs the procedures with the utmost care and will send you home with detailed post-operative instructions to follow.
